Install GIMP PPA in Linux Mint
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/gimp sudo apt update sudo apt install gimp
Convert transparency to color
Option 1: Layer > Transparency > Remove Alpha Layer
For this first set the background color to a color that you want to assign to transparent areas. Then on the menu select:
Layer > Transparency > Color to Alpha
