In Israeli academic institutions, a department is generally the smallest organizational unit. The Hebrew term used for "Department" can be Mahlaka (מחלקה) or Hug (חוג). In some disciplines, department like units are called schools (בית ספר).
Departments are organized within faculties. In some universities, large departments are called faculties (פקולטה).
