The current coronavirus acute respiratory disease has been named as coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). The virus has been identified as a member of the family Coronaviridae. The virus was provisionally named as 2019-nCoV. Later it was re-named as "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2" (SARS-CoV-2) by the Coronaviridae Study Group of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.
