Israeli Radio Stations

General comments: In Israel most of the radio stations are under the monopoly of the Israel Broadcasting Authority. Israel National Radio (Arutz Sheva) and many other private and religious radio stations have not been granted permits to broadcast over the whole country. Some broadcasting rights have been granted to only to a few regional radio stations. Thus, major radio stations are controlled by mostly anachronistic leftist to extreme-leftist groups who are trying to maintain their monopoly to prevent freedom of expression from religious groups. The judicial system and the Supreme court gives full backing to these leftist groups whose views the judges share and promote. The judicial system is engaged in selective persecution of religious Jewish radio broadcasters. The Supreme Court has annulled laws that attempted to give permits to religious Jewish radio stations.

Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA) operated short-wave broadcasts of Kol Israel - the Voice of Israel News for about 60 years. On March 31, 2008, short-wave broadcasts were terminated as a cost-cutting measure. Kol Israel broadcasts may now be heard via internet.
